Cookies & Analytics
What Swipefile stores in your browser and how to control optional measurement.
Effective and last updated: September 8, 2026Your choice comes first
Optional analytics are off until you choose Allow analytics. Choosing No thanks leaves browsing, swiping, saving, and exports available. You can change your choice using Analytics preferences in the footer. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, optional analytics remain off regardless of an earlier choice.
Storage used for features you request
Cookies are one type of browser storage. Swipefile also uses local storage, session storage, and a small offline-app cache:
- Saved boards —
swipe.boards.v1: local storage holds board names, reference identifiers, and timestamps until you remove them or clear browser data. - Appearance —
swipe.theme: local storage remembers your selected light or dark theme until you change or clear it. - Swipe progress —
swipe.deck.v1: session storage remembers the current deck and decisions for the tab’s session. - Browse return state —
swipe.browse: session storage remembers where you were browsing for the tab’s session. - Privacy choice —
swipe.analytics.choice.v1: local storage remembers allowed or declined analytics until you change or clear it. An older opt-out setting, if present, is also respected. - Installed-app support: a service worker caches the small offline shell. It does not provide a cloud backup of your boards or cache the entire reference library.
- Administrator access: administrators use authentication cookies to maintain secure sign-in. Public browsing does not require an administrator session.
Clearing all site data also clears local boards and preferences. Back up anything you want to keep first. Browser controls can block storage, but requested features may then be temporary or unavailable.
Optional analytics
With your permission, Sonar, our own analytics app, measures aggregate page visits and successful saves, board creation, and prompt copying. It receives public page paths and basic usage information rather than board contents. Analytics URLs exclude queries and fragments, and personal shared-board routes are excluded. We do not enable advertising pixels, session replay, or analytics cookies.
Sonar derives a site-specific visitor hash that changes daily from limited request information. This is pseudonymous measurement. This integration does not create a persistent visitor ID in browser storage or send advertising identifiers. “No analytics cookies” does not mean the service processes no information. Read the Privacy Policy for data categories, providers, sharing, and requests.
Changing or withdrawing your choice
Open the preferences and choose No thanks to stop future optional analytics from this browser. It does not delete aggregate measurements already processed. Choices are specific to this browser and device; clearing site data resets them. Browser-level privacy signals continue to take priority.
Hosting and security request processing still occurs when you decline analytics because the service needs to deliver pages and prevent abuse. Independent websites you visit from a reference have their own storage practices.
Future sign-in
Public account sign-in and cloud saves are planned. Before those features launch, this page will identify any additional authentication cookies or storage and how their settings work. No analytics permission is required to save boards in the current browser-based version.
